How safe are chat rooms
No person
can guarantee the absolute safety of any internet site at this time. Anyone can
manage to get into any chat room with enough motivation and a little skill.
What constitutes the best 'safety system' for any chat room in the world is the
knowledge, wits and if necessary supervision of the individual user. When
things go really wrong in chat room settings, it is because information was
shared with the wrong person naively, ignorantly, or because security/privacy
systems were not in place.
You enter a
chat room, start up a conversation with someone, and before you know it, you
have made a new friend. You need to remember that people can pretend to be
whoever they want to be online. You may meet someone online who seems sympathetic
and understanding, which gives you advice and seems to be your friend.
You can be
talking to someone who calls herself Suzy and claims she is 10 years old, who
is really a 40-year-old male who is looking to exploit you.
Chatting is a
very popular activity for young people, especially teenagers, but it is also
probably the most dangerous area on the Internet where they are most likely to
get into trouble.
There are
dozens of means of chatting on the Internet, but no matter how you chat, keep
in mind that the Internet is really anonymous. A friendly stranger in a chat
room is still a stranger and not an ideal person for you to trust with your
phone number or other personal information.
Some chat
rooms are just open conversations with no moderation where everyone has a
pretty much equal role; some are moderated by a "leader" who leads
the discussion and participants; while others have chaperons or monitors who
are responsible for maintaining order and assess what people write before
anyone else gets to see it. The monitor can reprimand or even kick someone out
of the room who is acting in an inappropriate manner, but he or she can't,
however, prevent teens from going off to a private chat area with a person who
might do harm to them or put them in danger. I think that chat rooms are not good because
they are very dangerous and can and may harm people.
I agree with most of what your trying to say, because i also think that using chat rooms is quite dangerous, but at some points i think its safe and a good way to meet people from somewhere. Using chat rooms is a good way of connecting with people online and it's a good way to communicate with other people if your lonely.
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree its a good way but what if younge adults like the age of 15 or 16 are on chat rooms and some 40 year old man is talking to them telling then he is 18 that is not right.
ReplyDeleteYeah which is why I just said sometimes chat rooms are dangerous and another think is that only sometimes its safe. and good to use.
Deletei agree with you using chat rooms are not safe they can harm people mentally and physically.
ReplyDeletepeople of all ages can trick younge people into thinking they love and care about them and it is sick and wrong.
ReplyDeleteI personally believe no online site is 100% safe especially online chat rooms
ReplyDeleteIt could be anyone on the otherside of the connection also on video chats you can see things no-one wants to whitness
Also FACT: Most suicides are caused by online chatroom bullying
yes exactly they online chat rooms are not safe they can cause alot of problems to people even death.
ReplyDeleteSome chat rooms are safe and it just depends on a person you chatting. Most people just want to flirt online at chat rooms. But if I was you I wouldn't go to chat rooms. There is a lot of alternatives of chat rooms that are safe where you can chat only to the people that you know.
ReplyDeleteI agree online chatrooms can cause suicide and affect that person for the rest of their life.
ReplyDeleteyes thats what im saying there is alot of alternatives but people still use them and not all people go on chat rooms to just flirt some people might just want to chat but the fact is its not safe to anyone.
